(08.20.12) Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma donates $15K matching funds for wildfire victims

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma will match dollar for dollar donations up to $15,000

August 13, 2012 – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma has announced it will donate up to $15,000 to The Salvation Army in a matching grant to assist wildfire victims in rebuilding their lives after wildfires destroyed 375 homes.

The company will donate the money to The Salvation Army disaster fund. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma will match dollar for dollar every donation from the public up to $15,000 for use in wildfire recovery. The Central Oklahoma Area Command will receive $7,500 of the matching funds for local disaster recovery efforts.

“Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation goes to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma for this matching grant. Having worked with victims of these wildfires, this support is greatly needed to help our neighbors put their lives back together. Please help them by donating,” said Major Dan Proctor, Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Commander.

Since the wildfire outbreak, The Salvation Army provided over 2,500 meals, 4,534 drinks, and over 2,600 snacks.  More than 300 man-hours have been recorded for volunteers, employees, and officers.

The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command was active in Luther, Geary and Noble during the wildfires and is part of the Multiple Agency Resource Center (MARC) in Luther and Noble, which are giving out $100 gift cards to help wildfire victims purchase some basic needed supplies such as meals.

“As a local health insurer, we want to take care of the communities where we live and work, and what better way to do that than to help Oklahomans in their most desperate hours,” said Dr. Joseph Cunningham, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Health Care Management at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma. “It is a privilege to be able to stand with our members in their time of need.”

The money from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma matching grant will help the victims with whatever they need to rebuild their lives.
