How to Get Involved

There are times in your life when you see an opportunity to help others in your community or you feel moved to give something back to others.

The Salvation Army offers many ways for you to help. The Central Oklahoma Area Command works year-round to serve Oklahoma County, Cleveland County and Canadian County.

Clerical Volunteer Assistant Needed

  • A volunteer assistant is needed to help with clerical work in the Social Services department. Commitment would be 2-3 days a week. Computer experience is strongly preferred.

Hope Gardens – 1001 N. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, OK 73107

  • Adopt a garden bed with family, friends, coworkers or your church & grow produce for our Client Choice Food Pantry & Red Shield Diner in a 4 ft. by 8 ft. bed.

Social Service Volunteers – 1001 N. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, OK 73107

  • Client Choice Pantry Volunteers
    • Assist client with shopping
    • Clean & wash fresh vegetables (sit down opportunity)
    • Offer encouraging words or prayer
  • Days & Hours
    • Monday: 1 to 3:30 p.m.
    • Tuesday (Stocking Food Pantry): 1 to 4 p.m.
    • Wednesday: 9 a.m. to Noon; 1 to 4 p.m.
    • Thursday (Stocking Food Pantry):  9 a.m. to Noon; 1 to 4 p.m.
    • Friday: 9 a.m. to Noon
  • This would be a great opportunity for a church, corporate, sports group or family, as a group of 10-12 individuals are needed every Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Red Shield Diner – 1001 N. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, OK 73107

  • Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Provide, Prepare, Serve.
      • Organize a group of family, friends or coworkers to purchase food for our Red Shield Diner, prepare the meal in our kitchen, and serve our guests as they join us for dinner.
    • Days & Hours
      • Monday; Wednesday-Saturday – 4 to 7 p.m.
      • Tuesday & Sunday - 3 to 6 p.m.

Family Shelter - 1001 N. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, OK 73107

  • Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Teach educational classes
    • Lead craft time
    • Help with seasonal event parties
  • Days & Hours:
    • Monday, Friday & Saturday – 5 p.m.
  • A background check is required before volunteering

Senior Centers - 5 Locations (Click for locations)

  • Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Need: Dance Instructors & Exercise Health Professionals
    • Serve lunch and assist with cleanup
    • Teach educational classes
    • Lead craft time
    • Help with seasonal event parties
    • Entertain the seniors with a musical/theatrical performance
  • Days & Hours:
    • Monday through Friday - 8:30 to 11 a.m.
  • A background check is required before volunteering

Boys & Girls Club - 2808 S.E. 44th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73129

  • Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Coach a sports team
    • Become an after school tutor
    • Teach life skills classes
    • Help prepare & serve snacks
    • Provide seasonal/birthday parties
    • Entertain the kids with a musical/theatrical performance
  • Days & Hours:
    • Monday through Friday
      • School Season - 3 to 6:30 p.m.
      • Summer Season - 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • A background check is required before volunteering

Disaster Relief

  • Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Attend training to become a certified disaster volunteer so you can be on the front lines when a disaster strikes.
