The First Annual Salvation Army Senior Living Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Warr Acres Community Center, 4301 N. Ann Arbor.

The event is free and open to the public. Senior citizens can learn of ways to enhance their lifestyle, embrace new ideas and get involved.

More than 30 organizations and service providers are slated to share information. Find out where to access continuing education programs, recreation opportunities, transportation options, home health providers, housing and much more.

“Seniors get to learn that they have options and amazing services available. If they are looking for it and can’t find it, keep asking questions,” said Lisa Syndor, Salvation Army senior center coordinator. “There are more things out there for seniors than we have ever imagined. Many seniors are not aware of about 99 percent of activities open to them. This goes beyond nursing homes and medical care; active seniors adults have access to many exciting, enriching and rewarding experiences.”

Information will be offered about housing available to seniors, medical, home health care, transportation and communications through such participants as OK Housing Authority, Catholic Charities, Cricket Communications and senior living communities.

“So many things are out there for seniors who are volunteering, traveling, working full-time,” said Syndor. “For instance, there are RV Clubs and sites that cater to only seniors and have special rates for traveling.”

Lunch will be available for a donation.

The mission of Salvation Army Senior Program is to offer programs for senior citizens that enhance self-worth, dignity and the intrinsic value of each individual. The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command provides senior programs at five centers in Central Oklahoma County.

The event is free to attend. For more information, contact Lisa at 631-1462 or Sherrie at 789-9892.
